How do I create the Hostaway API key, and where does it go in Anystay?

Create the key in Hostaway under Settings → Hostaway API with Partner set to "Hostaway Public API", then paste the Account ID and the key into Anystay under Settings → Integrations → Hostaway and press Test connection.

The key is created in Hostaway and pasted into Anystay once. Hostaway shows it a single time, so keep the window open until the Anystay side is saved.

In Hostaway

  1. Open the Hostaway dashboard and go to Settings → Hostaway API.
  2. Press Create.
  3. Give the key a Name, for example Anystay.
  4. Partner is mandatory. Anystay is not in Hostaway's marketplace list, so choose the generic option Hostaway Public API.
  5. Press Create. Hostaway shows the Account ID and the API Key in a new window.

Hostaway shows the key only once. If you close the window before it is saved in Anystay, delete that key under Settings → Hostaway API and create a new one.

In Anystay

  1. Go to Settings → Integrations → Hostaway.
  2. Paste the Account ID into Account ID and the key into API key.
  3. Press Save, then Test connection.

When the test is green, Anystay is connected. It adds its webhook to your Hostaway account by itself, so new bookings and guest messages arrive within seconds, and it starts the first sync: a year of bookings back and a year ahead, then the guest conversations. From then on Listings → + New listing → From Hostaway lists the account's listings, see Do I need to enter every listing field by hand?.

If the test fails, the page shows Hostaway's reason above the form. The usual causes are a copy that missed a character, or a key already deleted in Hostaway. Paste again and test again. Nothing is read from your Hostaway account, and nothing is written to it, until a test has passed.

What Anystay does with the connection

It reads your bookings, calendar and prices, guest messages and reviews, and creates cleanings from the bookings. It writes back your replies and automated messages, prices and blocked dates, and the booking changes and cancellations you make in Anystay. It does not change your listings' descriptions or photos in Hostaway. Remove key on the same page disconnects the account.
